Haleyville City Schools Superintendent’s Report To the Public
School Systems and Local Schools are graded under the guidelines of Federal Legislation called “No Child Left Behind.” The highest mark a system or school can receive is that of “Made Adequate Yearly Progress” more commonly known as AYP. With great pride I announce that all three schools and the system overall made this prestigious designation for 2009-2010. The NCLB bar is being raised each year and our teachers are responding by continuing to bring our students up to this national academic standard. All of Haleyville can hold their heads high and know that teaching and learning is taking place at Haleyville Elementary, Haleyville Middle and Haleyville High School! “Keep On Keeping On” to the entire staff of each school and to each student for being academic champions.
Mr. Joe Lightsey, Director of Pupil Transportation for the State Department of Education has presented a Certificate of Achievement to Haleyville City Schools for our Transportation Program attaining the goal of Excellence during the annual inspection of our bus fleet. Haleyville has seven buses that are used to transport special needs students and students for extra-curricular activities. Mr. Mike Batchelor is our in-house technician and he takes great pride in this award and he deserves “congratulations” on a job well done.
Earlier tonight Nurse Cooley and our principals gave updates regarding Haleyville Schools and the H1N1 virus. As a Board and superintendent, we want to reiterate that we are monitoring the situation closely and we assure all, especially students, parents, and faculty, that precautionary measures are being followed as we are being advised by our local physicians and state and national health - education officials. The safety of our students and staff will always be at the forefront of any decision recommended to and made by this Board of Education.
This Board held a Work Session last Tuesday night at the Albright Administrative Building with all members present. Discussion centered on local personnel needs, policy issues, system long and short term goals. No official business was transacted.
The next Regular Session of the Haleyville City Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday night, September 22, 2009 at 7:00 in the library of the Middle School with a Work Session before.
